1ST COME, 1ST SERVE! SPACE LIMITED! MAX OF 12 TEAMS/DAY TO INSURE QUALITY DURING REGULAR SEASON PLAY. CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND CAPPED AT 64 TEAMS.

League Rules

STANDARD RULES:

Rules for the Drip League will follow the AAU Boys Basketball Handbook with the exceptions outlined below. All participants must have AAU memberships in order to participate as an athlete or coach.

LEAGUE FORMAT:

1-Day Shootout Style. 2 game minimum per weekend. Top 2 teams in each division will play a third game to crown a weekend champion. Championship weekend will be a double elimination bracket play only tournament. Seeding will be determined by week 1-4 shootout league play record. Teams do not have to play every weekend, but must play at least 1 shootout league play weekend to qualify for the standard $89 entry fee for championship weekend. If a team wants to play championship weekend who did not play in week 1-4, then their entry fee will be $139.

GAME LENGTH:

2nd & 3rd: 14 Minute Halves

4th, 5th, 6th: 16 Minute Halves

7th, 8th, HS: 18 Minute Halves

A running clock will be utilized for the entire first half and all of the second half with the exception of the last two minutes. The last two minutes will be stopped clock on all whistles, dead balls, timeouts, etc.

TIMEOUTS:

Three 30-second timeouts per game. Timeouts do not carry over to overtime.

 

WARM-UP TIME:

2 minutes.

HALF-TIME:

1 minute.

OVERTIME:

Sudden Death.

2 WAY TIES:

Head-To-Head Competition.

3 WAY TIES:

Point differential (max. of 15 points/game) between the teams tied will determine the winner of the 3-way tie. Once the winner is determined, head-to-head competition between the remaining two teams will determine their seeds for bracket play. If there is still a 3-way point differential tie, teams who are tied will be seeded for bracket by order of least points given up. If tie still cannot be broken, a coin flip will determine seeding. 

SHOOTOUT AWARDS:

Division winner receives team trophy and medals each weekend.

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND AWARDS:

Division winner and runner-up receive AAU Drip Chains as the team award as well as medals for all athletes. 

 

COACHES DRESS CODE:

A dress code will not be enforced, but we ask you to dress appropriately to best represent your program.

ATHLETE UNIFORMS:

Teams must have a home and away jersey. Jersey numbers are only required on the back of the jersey.

HOME/AWAY TEAMS ON SCHEDULE:

The team listed on the top or left of a scheduled game is the away team. The team listed on the bottom or right of a scheduled game is the home team. 

 

GATE:

General admission is $10/day for adults and $5/day for kids 12 and under. Athletes and coaches on the teams verified AAU membership roster are FREE!

 

FIGHTING POLICY:  

Zero Tolerance! Fighting and player/coach/spectator misconduct on or off the court is strictly prohibited during the drip league! The court referees have final say in all player fouls and/or misconduct, including fighting with regards to in game penalties. The referee will then inform the tournament director of any misconduct or fighting that occurred. Further action outside of penalties assessed by the referees may be taken by the tournament director. Fighting will be defined as any deliberate action taken by an individual to cause physical harm to another player, spectator, coach or official. If a referee, official, tournament employee, or tournament director witnesses’ individuals engaging in a fight, an immediate ejection from the event will follow. If an excessive fight breaks out between two teams, both teams are automatically disqualified from the remainder of the event. The disqualified or removed parties then cannot participate in any more games for the remainder of the weekend as a player, coach or spectator. 
 

QUICK REFERENCE GAME RULES

If a team is not on the court at their scheduled start time for each game, their game may be forfeited. Game officials or scorekeepers will notify the tournament director if a team is missing for a game. The tournament director will attempt to call all list coaches on the team roster prior to forfeiting the game. Once a game is forfeited by the tournament director, the decision is final. The score of all forfeit games is 15-0. The top/left team on schedule is the away team and the bottom/right team is the home team. Athletes must check in to verify eligibility and coaches must show ID for bench wristband on-site prior to competition. Eligibility material may be requested after check-in at any time throughout the tournament in the case of a protest. Failure to provide eligibility material when requested may result in forfeiture of a game(s). 
 

ACCEPTABLE ELIGIBILITY MATERIALS

Age Verification: clean copy of birth certificate, state ID, driver’s license/learners permit, passport, military ID card, National Sports ID or Sports Age ID (please note AAU National Championships will NOT accept any copy or original birth certificates). Grade Verification: Report Card, School ID Card, or Certified Letter on School Letterhead (Home Schooled Athletes Must Provide proof of Grade Based off of their Academic Curriculum).
